Steve Steinberg has a BA in jazz performance from San Jose State University and an MA in Jazz Studies from SDSU. A professional saxophonist and woodwind player, Steve performs regularly with the O' Jay's, David Martin's House Party, Tommy Igoe and Rumors. He has also played with many top jazz, R&B, and popular performers, such as Aretha Franklin, Natalie Cole, Jamie Cullum, Rosemary Clooney, Mel Torme, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Frank Sinatra Jr., George Shearing, and many others. As a composer, arranger and performer, his work has been featured on many CDs including his own 1999 release, “Minor Excursions.” Steve can be heard regularly with many bands throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, including the Tommy Igoe Band (Yoshi’s SF), Cold Blood, David martin's House Party, the Fil Lorenz Big Band, Ernie Smalls Big Band, Martini Straight Up, the Dick Bright Orchestra, the Rumors Band, and many more.
Mr. Steinberg has been a music educator since 1984, teaching all levels, including elementary, middle school, high school instrumental music, and university jazz improvisation, jazz history and jazz ensembles. He has served as a judge and clinician at many jazz festivals, including Cal State Hayward, Cal State Stanislaus, the Fullerton College Jazz Festival, and the CMEA/KSDS Jazz Festival. For the past 3 years, Mr. Steinberg has enjoyed being the Dixie District Band teacher and Music Program Coordinator for the Dixie School District in San Rafael, teaching band at Miller Creek MS, Dixie Elementary, Vallecito Elementary, and Mary E. Silveira Elementary!
