The month of May commemorates Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month and Jewish American Heritage Month. This is a reminder to be aware of the contributions that these communities have had on American culture. Families can click here for resources for Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. Positive Panthers

Congratulations to our April's Positive Panther awards to 6th Grade: Rhys Hillary, 7th Grade: Sammie Foley, and 8th Grade: Jake Endicott. Way to go, Panthers!

Our next and last drawing this year will be at the end of May. 


Thursday, May 13th, is National Bike to School Day!

Please encourage your student to Bike, Skate, or Scooter to school- they can join in the fun and have a chance to win a $50 gift card to Sports Basement! 

 

Did you know that 40% of all car trips are 2 miles or less? Biking 2 miles takes only 12 minutes and may be faster than driving in traffic. Biking to school is good exercise, it reduces traffic and pollution, and it’s FUN. Your student should BIKE 2 IT! For more information, click here.

 

Attention 6th Graders

Safe Routes to School will be on campus the Week of 5/10-13 to teach safe biking skills.  Each PE class will participate one day only:

  • Monday: Jung 5th & Jung 9th periods
  • Tuesday: Boyle 5th & Arroyo 9th periods
  • Thursday: Wahl 5th & Zellers 9th periods

Please bring your bike helmet and bike or scooter to school the day of your skills presentation.  If you don't have a bike or helmet, there will be a limited number of bikes to borrow.  There will not be any helmets to borrow and you cannot share with others. When arriving at school in the morning, park you bike in one of the designated bike racks.  You will have an opportunity to get your bike and helmet before your PE class starts.  Additional information will go out via email to parents and students the week of May 3-7.  Any questions please email Kathy Jung kjung@millercreeksd.org and see this flyer for more information.


8th Grade - I Can Do! It 40 Day Challenge

This week's winner is Emma Scully! Keep up the great work eighth graders! Let's use these last weeks of school to celebrate all the amazing traditions and accomplishments you've experienced at Miller Creek. Eighth grade students will complete this form each week and every Friday we'll draw a name for a BIG prize! The class of 2021 will be the first to experience this new tradition. Always remember, today and every day is a great day to be a PANTHER and We Are Stronger Together!

Lunch Service

All students eat for free for the duration of the 2020/21 school year!  Any student attending school in the Miller Creek School District is eligible for a GrabnGo lunch at no cost.  Please create an account at The Lunch Master using the school code millercreekmiddle to register. Please place your lunch order no later than 10am on Tuesdays to receive GrabnGo lunches the following week.

 

Lunch Volunteers Needed- We need parent volunteers! If you are fully vaccinated and are available to volunteer for the lunch supervision, please sign-up here

May Mental Health Awareness Month

For May Mental Health Month counselors visited all 6th grade classes this week to brainstorm ways to reduce stress and practiced a mindfulness strategy that focuses on our 5 senses. Here is a mindfulness activity you could practice at home too. This week many students visited Ms. Jacobs and Ms. Marty in their offices to introduce themselves and pick up a small wellness gift.  We look forward to meeting more students next week.

MC Clubs on campus!

Students are invited to join us next week in the garden for one of our lunch time clubs:

Monday - 7th/8th Grade Art Club,12:00pm in the Garden

Tuesday - 7th/8th Grade QSA,12:00pm in the Garden

Thursday - 6th Grade Games Club,10:40am in the Garden


The Marin County Office of Education, in collaboration with Marin County Public Health and Kaiser Permanente, will be hosting a Town Hall Meeting and Panel Discussion on student vaccinations for parents, guardians and the school community next Tuesday, May 11, 2021 from 6:00 – 7:30 pm. The Town Hall is available by zoom and Facebook LIVE.

New Club Alert: Miller Creek Middle School Writing Club 

We are so impressed with the creativity of our Miller Creek Middle School writers!  Thank you Phenix Smith for sharing your poem!  

Can Do! is proud to provide funding for academic enrichment clubs such as the new Miller Creek Writing Club happening on Thursdays at 2PM via Zoom. Email Ms. Pike at cpike@millercreeksd.org for more information.

2021-22 FAMILY GIVING CAMPAIGN DONATION DAY IS FRIDAY, MAY 21ST!

As you may have heard, Can Do! is accepting donations for the 2021-22 school year now!   Can Do! will be on campus during drop-off times to answer questions, collect donations, and to thank all our families!

  • Our goal is to have 10% of our families contribute to the 2021-22 Family Giving Campaign (FGC) by May 21st.  CAN we DO it?!

  • Donate (or pledge) online or submit a hardcopy remit to be entered into a drawing to win a $50 Amazon gift card.  (Don’t forget to designate Can Do! Education Foundation on your AmazonSmile account.)  

  • All families who have donated to 2021-22 FGC by May 21st are automatically entered!
