Why study French?  Click here to find out!

"Learning to speak another's language means taking one's place in the human community.  It means reaching out to others across cultural and linguistic boundaries.  Language is far more than a system to be explained.  It is the most important link to the world around us.  Language is culture in motion.  It is people interacting with people."  ~Sandra Savignon

"The most beautiful of all languages must be that which is at once, the most complete, the most sonorous, the most varied in its twists and the most regular in its progress, that which has most compound words, that which by its prosody best expresses the soul's slow or impetuous movements, that which most resembles music."  ~Voltaire

About the Teacher

Dear Parents,

Bienvenue à la classe de français!  It is with great pleasure that I welcome your child to French class. The study of a foreign language is an exciting journey in your child’s education.  Many new doors will open to those willing to make the investment in learning French – the ability to communicate with people from other countries around the world, new cultural experiences, an appreciation of other ways of life, tasting new foods, exploring vibrant history, and having a lot of fun!

Before moving to California in 2002, I taught French, Civics, Honors World History, and U.S. History (Honors and AP) at Belleville East High School in Illinois for nine years.  My experiences traveling in Europe and studying and living in Montpellier, France, influence my approach to bringing the world to my classroom.  In addition to grammar rules and vocabulary lessons, I enjoy creating real-life situations that make your child’s study of a foreign language more meaningful.

I look forward to the year ahead and ask that your son/daughter make a serious commitment to this class.  The reward of learning a foreign language is immeasurable and a skill that is enjoyed his/her whole life.

If you have any questions or need to contact me for any reason, please either leave a message in the office (492-3760) or email me at lwinnett@dixieschooldistrict.org.  It is my goal to return messages &/or emails within 24 hours.  Messages left during the weekend will be returned on the following Monday.

Thank you for entrusting your child to me each day.  I promise to do my best to help each student along his/her journey to learn the French language and reach his/her fullest potential.

Cordialement à vous,

Laura Winnett
